(Being Human is back SOON)

Ever noticed how adverts for those rain poncho things never actually feature, well, rain?

WHY ARE THEY WEARING THOSE THINGS IF IT ISN'T RAINING? Argh.

Media Studies

My A-Level Media Studies lessons were mental. Well they seemed to be to me, especially at first.

They sat us in front of films about drugs and violence, and usually things that were 18 certificate. Then they got us to write many many essays about them, I suppose so that we could see why they were so amazing. I was sixteen, and very much unused to films of this kind. I went to a very middle class school and I was still watching Disney films on youtube.

But that's not really why they were so difficult for me to grasp.

We'd walk in, and the teacher would put on a film saying something like "This is one of the best films you are likely to see in your life." We'd all get hopeful and then it would start. Get your popcorn ready, it's 10 minutes long (also there is swearing, this is one of those films after all):

And then it would end and they'd say "Wasn't that just the most brilliant thing you've ever seen in your life??"

Now this one in particular came up on my suggested videos section on youtube and watching it REALLY reminded me of my A Levels, partly because we did actually watch it, but also because you just get to the end and think "...what?!"

It was ages before I really understood what made my Media teachers obsess over these weird films. Now I'm slowly starting to understand I suppose, but I'd still rather watch Mulan any day.

Maybe that's why I got a D haha :P

Ranting again? Must be a pointless holiday.

New Years Celebrations are a load of nonsense.

Nobody actually cares what the date is - it will only matter in fifty years or so when I'm old and will be telling children about how it was all wonderful in the old days. I can hear myself already..

"In those golden summers of '09 we all used to go to the Ikea restaurant and get cheap food together while looking out over the dismal grey city.. Oh you could never imagine the simple pleasures of those days, little Jim."

Then again, it wouldn't matter what year I said because they probably won't be listening anyway.

The number of years since we switched to A.D. rarely has an effect on our daily lives, and we all know it. Reaching the year 2000 was a bit of a novelty perhaps, but 2010 is surely nothing special.

Anyway I hope that the next 10 years are roughly as good as the last 10 were.

Facebook.

Today I'd like to talk about something serious and important. It is a crime that many, many commit every day without even thinking about it. I personally feel like a victim of this crime and I truly believe that if shown the error of their ways, most of these criminals would realise what they are doing and stop without a moments hesitation.

The joining of groups and fan pages is slowly turning Facebook into world of monotony and drudge. Every time I go on, it looks a lot like THIS.

It's driving me mental. I miss terribly being able to go on and find out how my actual friends are doing. I don't go on because I want to know which of the randoms that I'm friends with are fans of Texting or even worse, something like this:

Saying " It's ok " but secretly knowing it's killing you inside

How can you even be a fan of that?! (at least 5 of my friends are)

Each dreary page is as dull as the last, with a profile picture pulled straight from Google images in the hopes of drawing out a flat smile from the blank faces of the plebs who join.

But I really want to know is, why do people join? Surely the idea is that you join the pages of a few musicians and TV shows, so that if your newer acquaintances want to know a bit more about you, they can have a quick look at the list on your profile and learn a bit about your tastes in entertainment. Instead they are now just met with a lengthy characterless list of groups and pages which are notable only in that 60,000 other people have also joined. Why would anyone want to be defined by something that so many other people are thoughtlessly claiming at the same time?

I do still like Facebook, but it's just like nobody else is at all frustrated by it. Readers, I know that you're doing it and I will get you. Some day, somewhere. Maybe even while you're sleeping.

...Hope you had a good Christmas lol.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, DARLINGS.

Eee! Such a good day! :D

Just watched Doctor Who - I won't spoil it, but I was basically on the edge of my seat the whole time.

My mum fell asleep, and my dad walked out after about ten minutes. Brother and sister didn't even bother trying.

I don't really want to be using my internettish language on Christmas day but - THEY ARE ALL FAIL.

Okay, okay, I'll stop. But seriously, they're all rubbish.

Also, I do love David Tennant but I think the bit I'm most excited about for the next part is actually seeing MATT SMITH. I know we'll most likely only get like a few seconds right at the end, but I so can't wait for him to take over.

Knowing my luck, Doctor Who will probably start again just as I leave for Moldova and I'll miss the whole series lol.

END OF DOCTOR WHO DISCUSSION
(I do realise that not everyone is a fan *cough*Lindleys*cough*)

Got lots of nice things for Christmas - including the loveliest cardigan in the world. It's long and woolly thick and warm enough for the Arctic. It's brown with cream stitches and I'll wear it for the rest of my life, I think.

My brother has updated my Harry Potter DVD collection - I now have them all! Very pleased to have the latest one, as I haven't been watching the special features online in case I should pull the money together to get it for myself.

My sister bought me a digital picture frame which caused rather a lot of concentration and brainpower on my part until I finally realised that what it needed was a card that I don't have. So it may be a short while before I get to use it hehe.

I've spent most of today eating food and watching the telly, which has been a lot of fun actually! Watched Happy Feet, which I've been meaning to see for ages, and The Gruffulo which was fantastic, even by the opinion of the two in my family who have memorised the book from reading it to children so much.

Grandma arrives tomorrow, so I'd better wrap her present really. Hope you're all having a wonderful day, Merry Christmas!

(This is possibly the longest thing I have put on here for the whole of 2009, so I hope you enjoyed it haha.)

Where's MY flipping snow???!

I keep marching up to my window, messily swiping away the curtain and scowling out at the clear night sky.

WHERE THE FLIP IS MY SNOW??

I think I'm turning into Bernard Black.

I just need to work on my Irish accent.

tap dancing + rollerskating = win.

I can't tap dance, and I'm not particularly amazing in rollerskates either.

So Gene Kelly gets the award for 'most awesome' right here:

Too tired to be thinking of titles.

The thing with wearing two pairs of socks is that when you get to taking them off at night you end up being like "WILL THE SOCKS NEVER END???"

Undressing is always a rather dramatic affair for me. I always lose my balance when I'm taking my trousers off, and I often end up thinking things like "Oh no! I'm going to be stuck in this jumper FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE."

I must point out to you though that this is usually when it's getting towards 2am & I'm generally not quite with it.

That's just a little snapshot for you into the part of my life that you're less likely to be a part of lol.

My days off from work are always very productive.

For example, today I made an angel :D

Two mince pie cases and some scrunched up tissue.
